My Chicago

Sep 22 2016

Designed for children ages 6 to 12, My Chicago uses the symbols and design of the city’s flag to explore our rich and diverse history. The curriculum illustrates Chicago’s past and present by drawing on the Museum’s collections, including a variety of photographs, documents, and images of artifacts. The activities are appropriate for use in the classroom or at home. Download all ten or explore them one at a time:

Introduction and Timeline of Events
Activity 1 – Chicago Flag
Activity 2 – Fort Dearborn – This activity is currently under review. As we work toward sharing complex and inclusive histories, it is imperative that at times we step back and review resources and materials to ensure that they are culturally responsive, historically accurate, and actively antiracist. Please check back for updates as our review process continues.
Activity 3 – The Great Chicago Fire
Activity 4 – Chicago’s World’s Fairs
Activity 5 – Chicago River
Activity 6 – Chicago Landmarks

Activity 8 – Picture That: Shopping in the Neighborhood
Activity 9 – My Chicago Poetry
Activity 10 – My Chicago Field Trip

My Chicago was made possible by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
