Back Home: Polish Chicago

The Chicago History Museum’s exhibition on Chicago’s Polish communities will examine the immigration experiences of Polish people coming to and living in the city over the last 160 years. The exhibition will offer a unique perspective on these immigrant groups who have fueled the city’s growth, shaped its identity, and spurred ongoing international connections. Using new and extant oral histories, scholarship, archives, and artifacts, the exhibition will explore how links with Poland and Polish identity have shifted over generations and how these experiences relate to those of other immigrant communities.

The Chicago Learning Collaborative is a K–12 museum education initiative that provides students meaningful learning experiences that are centered around Chicago history and incorporate diverse narratives and perspectives. The CLC programs are classroom-based and free to schools that participate. They are designed to be relevant, accessible, and culturally responsive to their audiences. Each program culminates in a family event at the Museum where parents, students, and the public have an opportunity to view a temporary exhibition of the students’ work and celebrate their achievements.
