The Chicago History Museum will host the virtual 26th annual Making History Awards at 6 p.m. CST on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, from our Chicago History Museum YouTube Channel. Please bookmark this page for future reference. This difficult decision was made in support of the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago’s efforts to encourage social distancing.

This year, we celebrate the accomplishments of seven distinguished honorees who have left their mark on Chicago. Join us as we share each of their unique stories and hear from esteemed colleagues on the importance of their contributions to our community. We will also hear from Chicago History Museum leadership and take a look inside the Museum’s current initiatives, exhibitions, and educational programs. Be sure to stay tuned to the end for a special surprise!

We hope you will stand with us and lend your support to our largest annual fundraiser this year. We understand that these times are difficult, but a commitment today would mean so much to ensure we will be able to continue to share Chicago stories and serve as a hub of scholarship, learning, inspiration, and civic engagement.

Recognizing Extraordinary Contributions to Chicago

Over the past twenty-six years, the Making History Awards have honored 113 Chicagoans and thirteen Chicago companies whose enduring contributions to art and culture, sports, business, and civic life have made Chicago a better and more vibrant place to live.

The Chicago History Museum inaugurated this event in 1995 to provide vital financial support to the Museum’s operations and programs. More than twenty-six years later, this event is still a cornerstone of the institution, supporting the Museum’s mission to share Chicago’s stories.
