Chicago’s Near West Side is a community area that consists of smaller, more specific neighborhoods, such as Little Italy, Greektown, and the West Loop, among others. Like other city neighborhoods, it was home to many immigrant and migrant groups, such as the Irish, Germans, Czechs, French, Mexicans, and African Americans. Once a vibrant immigrant and commercial area, urban renewal has displaced many longtime residents and changed the look and feel of the Near West Side. Learn about its history and evolution in this week’s activities!
