Walking Tour

Shel Silverstein’s Chicago Stroll

Saturday, June 30

Writer Shel Silverstein is beloved for classics such as The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and the hit Johnny Cash song “A Boy Named Sue,” but did you know he was Chicago-born and raised? That he had roots in Humboldt Park, attended Roosevelt University, and once lived on desserts in the Playboy Mansion? On this walking tour with Paul Durica, we’ll stop in front of the former mansion, walk to the site of legendary folk music club the Gate of Horn, and visit other locales in the Gold Coast and Old Town that shaped some of the most popular and enduring pictures, poems, and songs of the twentieth century.

*Tour runs about 2 hours.
