Dressing Barbie
Saturday, August 15
The Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum invites you to join us for a virtual presentation by Carol Spencer as she shares about her storied career at Mattel dressing America’s favorite doll for 36 years. Spencer has influenced fashion through her fantastical designs for Barbie, which have thrilled both children and adults for decades. She was the first designer to have her signature on the doll, the first to go on a signing tour, the first to design a limited-edition Barbie Doll for collectors, and the designer of the best selling Barbie of all time.
Spencer’s book, Dressing Barbie: A Celebration of the Clothes That Made America’s Favorite Doll and the Incredible Woman Behind Them (2019), has gained international press coverage as publishers make their way to her living room to interview Spencer and photograph her amazing private archive. Please RSVP by Wednesday, August 5.
