Bohemian National Cemetery Walking Tour
Sunday, July 16 — Sunday, July 16
Bohemian National Cemetery was established by members of the city’s Czech community in 1877. Originally, they purchased 50 acres of land to establish their own burial grounds after a Czech Catholic woman was denied burial at other cemeteries in the area, reportedly, because she never made a final confession. Through the years the cemetery has sprawled to 126-acres and houses a rare glass-fronted columbarium specifically dedicated to Chicago Cubs fans and even includes a stained glass image of Wrigley Fields’ scoreboard. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, the cemetery also features ornate artisan-designed elements, magnificent mausoleums, and emblematic treestone grave markers.
Tours run approximately 2 hours.
