Creating a Successful Documentary Project: A Workshop with Professor Cyndi Moran (January 23, 10AM)

Are you creating a documentary project and wondering how to make the most of your material? This one-hour workshop will demonstrate the resources and techniques you need to take your documentary project to the next level. The workshop presenter, Cyndi Moran, has advised numerous Chicago Metro History Fair contestants on creating successful documentary projects.

Cyndi Moran is Professor of Communication, Media, and Theatre at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Cyndi teaches a variety of media production courses including Introduction to Video Production, Advanced Video Production, and Digital Video Editing, as well as cinema studies courses such as Documentary Film and The Art of Film and Video. Her documentary work has been seen on the PBS series P.O.V. and in numerous national and international festivals. She has produced TV segments for WTTW and The Sundance Channel, and she has edited independent documentary productions, television shows, commercials, and programs for artists and not-for-profits.

    • Project Submissions Due (and websites lock): February 26
    • Virtual Fair: March 6
    • Combined Senior Results: March 13
  • Junior Division (for all schools gr. 6-8)
    • Project Submissions Due (and websites lock): March 10
    • Virtual Fair: March 20
    • Junior Results: April 3
  • Senior Finals (projects selected to advance from Senior Suburban and Senior City)
    • Project Revisions Due (and websites lock): March 24
    • Virtual Fair: March 27
    • Senior Finals Results: April 3


Although our traditional in-person Palooza events will not be possible for the 2020-21 season, we invite students and parents to explore the “Research Support and Coaching” section of the CMHF Research page to see some of the ways students can still get help finding the resources they need.
