A Picture Is a Poem without Words
Every Sunday, we’re featuring a submission to our community-based initiative, In This Together, which collects digital records that capture personal experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week, we’re sharing a piece of pandemic art, Liberty Leading through the Pandemic War, created by Jessica Ramirez as part of her coursework at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
“I attended my first spring semester at UIC back in January of 2020 for a bachelor’s degree in art history. Little did I know the rest of my semester would end up online. All of the instructors had little time to prepare, and we had an extra week of spring break. Some of my art history classes required me to come up with my own interpretation of some of the sections we learned in class. I decided for the rest of the semester, my interpretations of the material would reflect on the pandemic.”
