Celebrating Louis Sullivan's 150th Anniversary

In 2006, the Chicago History Museum led a six-week series of public programs to mark the 150th anniversary of Louis Sullivan's birth. The culminating event was the Louis Sullivan at 150 International Symposium, held at the Museum. What: The Architecture of Louis Sullivan: Newberry Library 10-Week Seminar

When: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Newberry Library, 60 West Walton Street, Chicago, 60610

Description: In honor of the 150th anniversary of Louis Sullivan's birth, this Newberry Library Seminar will provide in-depth opportunities to study Sullivan's biography and published writings, analyze his most important buildings in detail, examine his connections to fellow architects, craftsmen, and materials suppliers in Chicago, and assess his ongoing influence and reputation.

Diane Dillon is a scholar-in-residence at the Newberry Library. She holds a Ph.D. in the history of art from Yale University.

What: "Music of the Auditorium's First Golden Age"

When: 7:00 p.m.

Where: Rudolph Ganz Recital Hall, 7th Floor, Roosevelt University, 430 South Michigan Avenue.

Description: Free concert by the faculty & students of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of the Performing Arts. Louis Sullivan's incredible gold-leaf electroliers & the restored Albert Fleury murals of Ganz Hall (originally the Banquet Hall of the Auditorium Hotel) provide an evocative setting for the faculty & students of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts playing music popular between 1889, the year of the Auditorium Building's opening, and 1893, the memorable year of the World's Columbian Exposition.

The concert is free and no reservations are required, but seating is limited!
