About the Costume Council 50th Fund Head to Toe Appeal

The Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum is excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary with the opening of a special commemorative costume exhibition in the fall of 2024. The exhibition will draw from the more than 50,000 pieces—from haute couture to homespun—in the Museum’s internationally renowned collection of historical clothing and accessories.

True to our mission, the Costume Council has a goal to fundraise for the 50th Fund, which will support the 2024 costume exhibition and exhibition catalogue. We can’t wait to see which items the Museum’s curators select for this special showcase. Dedicated supporters like you enable CHM to be a leader in the documentation and interpretation of history through fashion.

ABOUT THE COSTUME COUNCIL

The Costume Council proudly supports the costume collection at the Chicago History Museum, which has become one of the world’s premier repositories of clothing and accessories with more than 50,000 pieces dating from the 1750s to the present day. CHM serves as a unique national resource to the preservation, interpretation, and understanding of history through the collection, examination, and documentation of costume.

The breadth of our collection reflects the rise of Chicago as well as the dressmakers, milliners, and manufacturers who made our city their home. Worn by former presidents and first ladies, sports stars, celebrities or everyday people, each piece reflects our connection to Chicago.

Thank you for supporting our mission through your generosity!
