West Hesler Panorama
This stretch of LaSalle Street, now lined with office buildings, offers more evidence of the striking contrasts in land use (and non-use) in the center of Chicago in 1858. Substantial business establishments and shanty housing are side-by-side. The large building in the upper right is the Lind Block, the only finished South Division building in the path of the fire that escaped destruction.
