It took 10 years to build Union Station, and since opening in 1925, with 10 tracks coming into the station from the north and 14 from the south, it has become one of the busiest railway stations in the country. Occupying an entire city block, Union Station is the last of the great railway terminals with its arching Great Hall and a Post Office over the south tracks. You’ll quickly learn why it was once called “a city within a city,” as you learn the architectural facts, transport history, and intriguing narratives around the French block murals, large columns, chandeliers, restaurants, and even the utilitarian offices and airport-like lounge for business and family travelers alike.
