Getting Ready for Your Visit

Here are a few tips to help you plan your field trip.

Please share this information with your colleagues and chaperones before coming to the Museum.

  • Schedule your visit at least three weeks in advance. Spaces fill up quickly, so make your reservations early.
  • Consult a school calendar in advance that indicates holidays, in-services, report-card days, and school events.
  • Choose your entrance and exit times. Visits begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 12:00 noon on Sunday. Visits can last from one to three hours, including lunch.
  • Indicate the size of your group. Maximum group size is 120. We ask you to subdivide your students into groups of 10 prior to your visit.
  • Secure chaperones. We require one adult for every ten students. Remember you are responsible for your students and their behavior while visiting the Museum.
  • Request a lunchroom reservation using the reservation form. The lunchroom is available for students in grades 3 to 8. Students need to bring their own lunches and beverages; storage will be provided.
  • School group reservation requests must be made in writing. Submit the reservation form by fax or mail. You will receive a printed confirmation letter by fax (or mail, if requested) in seven to ten days.
  • Coats, backpacks, food, drinks, and chewing gum are not allowed in the Museum’s galleries. This applies to students, teachers, and chaperones alike. Storage for coats and lunches is provided.
  • Students must use pencils when writing in the galleries. Pens are not allowed. A limited number of clipboards are available for school groups working on assignments while in the galleries.
